Day 1 – Aswan Highlights: Philae Temple, High Dam & Unfinished Obelisk

Your 4 Day Aswan and Luxor Tour begins in Aswan.

At approximately 8:00 AM, your private guide and driver will pick you up from your hotel or Nile cruise to begin exploring the highlights of Aswan.

Start with a visit to the Aswan High Dam, one of the most important engineering projects in modern Egyptian history. The dam transformed the relationship between Egypt and the Nile by helping control the annual floods and creating the enormous Lake Nasser.

Continue to Aswan’s ancient granite quarries to discover the Unfinished Obelisk. Still attached to the natural bedrock, this enormous monument provides a fascinating look at the techniques ancient Egyptian craftsmen used to carve and shape giant stone monuments.

Your next destination is one of Aswan’s most beautiful archaeological attractions: the Temple of Philae.

Take a short motorboat journey to Agilkia Island, where the temple now stands. Dedicated primarily to the goddess Isis, Philae was rescued from the rising waters surrounding the original island and carefully relocated as part of the international UNESCO Nubia Campaign.

Kom Ombo is particularly unusual because it was designed as a double temple. One part was associated with Sobek, the crocodile god, while another was dedicated to Horus the Elder, represented as a falcon-headed deity.
