Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Are tours to Egypt safe?

Yes, Egypt is a remarkably safe destination for international travelers, and tourism areas are heavily secured. When booking with Vipxplor, your safety and peace of mind are our top priorities. You will travel exclusively in private, modern air-conditioned vehicles with professional local drivers who know the routes perfectly, accompanied by your dedicated guide from start to finish.

How much money should I bring with me?

This depends on your personal spending habits, but we generally recommend budgeting $30 to $50 USD per day for personal expenses, souvenirs, and extra meals. While major credit cards are accepted in hotels and upscale shops, having cash in Egyptian Pounds (EGP) is essential for small purchases, local markets, and tipping.

How does tipping work in Egypt?

Tipping (locally known as “Tipping” or “Baksheesh”) is a deeply ingrained part of Egyptian culture and is expected for drivers, cruise crew, temple guards, and guides. While it is always discretionary and depends on the quality of service, we provide our guests with a transparent, stress-free tipping guideline document before arrival so you know exactly what to expect.

How should I prepare for the local culture?

Egyptians are famous for their warmth and hospitality. To respect local customs, we recommend dressing modestly, especially when visiting mosques, churches, or traditional local markets (keeping shoulders and knees covered). Learning a few basic Arabic words like “Shukran” (Thank you) is highly appreciated by the locals and opens doors to great conversations.

Do I need a professional guide to assist me?

While you can walk through sites alone, visiting Egypt without an expert means missing the real stories behind the stones. Navigating tickets, transport logistics, and street vendors can also be overwhelming. At Vipxplor, we only partner with university-degreed, fully licensed Egyptologists who act not just as guides, but as your personal insider companions.

How much does a meal cost, and can I drink the water?

Tap water in Egypt is not safe for drinking. You should always use bottled water, even for brushing your teeth (Vipxplor provides complimentary bottled water during all your day tours). As for food, a casual local meal can cost between $5 to $10 USD, while a dining experience at a premium or hotel restaurant typically ranges from $20 to $40 USD.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and Welcome to Cairo

When you land at Cairo International Airport, a VIPXplor team member will be waiting for you inside the terminal. We’ll handle the airport paperwork, help with your bags, and drive you straight to your hotel in a comfortable, private air-conditioned car so you can rest up.

Day 2: The Pyramids, Saqqara and Memphis

Today is all about the big history. Your private guide will take you to the Giza Plateau to see the Pyramids and the Sphinx up close. Afterward, we’ll drive out to Saqqara to check out the Step Pyramid of Djoser, and wrap up the afternoon at Memphis, the ancient capital.

Day 3: Egyptian Museum and Old Cairo

We start the morning at the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square, home to thousands of ancient artifacts and the famous golden mask of King Tutankhamun. In the afternoon, we’ll slow down the pace with a walk through Coptic Cairo, visiting the Hanging Church and the historic Ben Ezra Synagogue.

Day 4: Flight to Aswan and Cruise Boarding

Catch an early morning flight to Aswan. Our team will meet you at the airport and take you to your Nile cruise ship for check-in. Once you’re settled, we’ll visit the beautiful Philae Temple on its island, the High Dam, and the Unfinished Obelisk before spending your first night on the river.

Day 5: Sailing to Kom Ombo and Edfu Temples

Relax on deck as the ship heads north. Today we stop at two famous riverside spots: the double temple of Kom Ombo (dedicated to the gods Sobek and Horus) and the massive, incredibly well-preserved Temple of Horus at Edfu.

Day 6: Luxor’s West Bank and The Tombs

Welcome to Luxor. We’ll cross over to the West Bank to explore the Valley of the Kings, where you can walk inside the beautifully painted tombs of Egypt’s pharaohs. We’ll also visit the striking cliffside Temple of Queen Hatshepsut and stop by the giant Colossi of Memnon.

Day 7: Karnak and Luxor Temples – Flight to Sharm El Sheikh

Before leaving Luxor, we’ll tour the massive Karnak Temple—famous for its huge hall of giant stone pillars—and the nearby Luxor Temple. In the evening, we’ll drive you to the airport for a quick flight over to the beach paradise of Sharm El Sheikh.

Days 8, 9 and 10: Beach Days in Sharm El Sheikh

These three days are entirely yours to spend however you like. Relax by the resort pool, layout on the beach, or ask us about setting up optional activities like boat trips to Ras Mohammed, scuba diving, or a desert safari at sunset.

Day 11: Return Flight to Cairo

Fly back to Cairo in the morning. The rest of the day is free for you to explore the city at your own pace, do some last-minute souvenir shopping at Khan El Khalili, or just enjoy a relaxing dinner.

Day 12: Heading Home

After breakfast, our driver will pick you up from your hotel and drop you off at Cairo International Airport for your flight back home.
