Your third day begins early, at approximately 4:00 AM, for one of the most spectacular experiences of your 6 Day Egypt Tour.

The archaeological complex consists of two monumental temples created during the reign of Pharaoh Ramses II.

The enormous Great Temple of Ramses II is immediately recognizable by the four colossal statues dominating its façade. The monument was designed as a powerful expression of the pharaoh’s authority and remains one of Egypt’s most impressive ancient structures.

Nearby stands the beautiful temple dedicated to Hathor and Queen Nefertari, the Great Royal Wife of Ramses II.

Your Egyptologist guide will introduce you to the fascinating history of the temples and explain their extraordinary rescue during the 20th century.

When the construction of the Aswan High Dam threatened the monuments with submersion, an international campaign dismantled and relocated the temples to higher ground.

Your first major destination is the beautiful Temple of Philae.

Take a motorboat to Agilkia Island, where this remarkable temple complex now stands. Primarily dedicated to the goddess Isis, Philae is one of Aswan’s most atmospheric ancient sites.

The temple was relocated from its original location as part of the international effort to protect Nubian monuments from the rising waters associated with the Aswan High Dam.

Continue to the Aswan High Dam, an enormous modern engineering project that dramatically changed Egypt’s relationship with the Nile and created Lake Nasser.

Your final archaeological stop is the Unfinished Obelisk in Aswan’s ancient granite quarries.

Still attached to the natural bedrock, the enormous unfinished monument provides fascinating evidence of how ancient Egyptian craftsmen worked with massive blocks of stone.

After sightseeing, enjoy lunch before transferring to the train station.

Built dramatically against the limestone cliffs, the temple is one of Egypt’s most distinctive architectural monuments and celebrates the reign of Queen Hatshepsut.
