Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Are tours to Egypt safe?

Yes, Egypt is a remarkably safe destination for international travelers, and tourism areas are heavily secured. When booking with Vipxplor, your safety and peace of mind are our top priorities. You will travel exclusively in private, modern air-conditioned vehicles with professional local drivers who know the routes perfectly, accompanied by your dedicated guide from start to finish.

How much money should I bring with me?

This depends on your personal spending habits, but we generally recommend budgeting $30 to $50 USD per day for personal expenses, souvenirs, and extra meals. While major credit cards are accepted in hotels and upscale shops, having cash in Egyptian Pounds (EGP) is essential for small purchases, local markets, and tipping.

How does tipping work in Egypt?

Tipping (locally known as “Tipping” or “Baksheesh”) is a deeply ingrained part of Egyptian culture and is expected for drivers, cruise crew, temple guards, and guides. While it is always discretionary and depends on the quality of service, we provide our guests with a transparent, stress-free tipping guideline document before arrival so you know exactly what to expect.

How should I prepare for the local culture?

Egyptians are famous for their warmth and hospitality. To respect local customs, we recommend dressing modestly, especially when visiting mosques, churches, or traditional local markets (keeping shoulders and knees covered). Learning a few basic Arabic words like “Shukran” (Thank you) is highly appreciated by the locals and opens doors to great conversations.

Do I need a professional guide to assist me?

While you can walk through sites alone, visiting Egypt without an expert means missing the real stories behind the stones. Navigating tickets, transport logistics, and street vendors can also be overwhelming. At Vipxplor, we only partner with university-degreed, fully licensed Egyptologists who act not just as guides, but as your personal insider companions.

How much does a meal cost, and can I drink the water?

Tap water in Egypt is not safe for drinking. You should always use bottled water, even for brushing your teeth (Vipxplor provides complimentary bottled water during all your day tours). As for food, a casual local meal can cost between $5 to $10 USD, while a dining experience at a premium or hotel restaurant typically ranges from $20 to $40 USD.

Itinerary

Day 1: Giza Pyramids, Saqqara Step Pyramid & Grand Egyptian Museum

Your private guide will meet you in your hotel lobby after breakfast to start the tour. The day begins at the Giza Plateau to explore the Great Pyramids (Cheops, Khafre, and Menkaure) along with the Sphinx. Next, travel to Saqqara to see the Step Pyramid of Djoser, the oldest stone pyramid complex in history. Conclude the tour at the Grand Egyptian Museum to view its expansive collections, including the treasures of King Tutankhamun.

Day 2: Historic Cairo: Coptic, Islamic & Khan El Khalili Bazaar

Your exploration of Cairo begins with an 8:00 AM pickup from your hotel. Today is dedicated to discovering the city’s rich religious and cultural history. Start in Old Coptic Cairo to visit the Hanging Church and the Ben Ezra Synagogue. Move to the Islamic quarter to see the Citadel of Saladin, the Alabaster Mosque, and the Sultan Hassan Mosque. Finish the day walking down El Muizz Street and browsing the stalls at the medieval Khan El Khalili market.

Day 3: Arrival in Luxor, East Bank Tour & Cruise Check-In

Our representative will meet you at your location in Luxor and transfer you to your 5-star Nile Cruise ship for check-in. After lunch onboard, head out for a private tour of Luxor’s East Bank. You will visit the monumental Karnak Temple complex and the beautifully preserved Luxor Temple. Dinner and overnight stay onboard the cruise.

Day 4: Luxor West Bank & Sailing to Edfu

Following breakfast onboard, cross over to the West Bank of Luxor. Spend the morning exploring the ancient royal tombs in the Valley of the Kings, the unique multi-tiered Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, and the giant Colossi of Memnon. Return to the ship by afternoon as it begins sailing toward Edfu. Enjoy the scenery from the sun deck.

Day 5: Edfu (Horus Temple) & Kom Ombo (Sobek Temple)

After breakfast onboard, take a tour of Edfu Temple, a remarkably well-preserved Ptolemaic temple dedicated to the falcon god Horus. Return to the ship and continue cruising down the Nile to Kom Ombo. Before dusk, step ashore to visit the unusual double temple of Kom Ombo, dedicated symmetrically to both Sobek the crocodile god and Haroeris the falcon god. Sail onward to Aswan with dinner and evening entertainment onboard.

Day 6: Private Day Trip to Abu Simbel Temples

The day begins with an early 4:00 AM pickup from your cruise ship in Aswan. Travel via a private, comfortable air-conditioned car on a 3-hour drive (290 km south) to Abu Simbel. Following the tour, you will be transferred to your designated departure point (airport or train station).
